Chattanooga Artist Taylor Hart Immortalizes Your Pets on Canvas

By Mason Edwards, Editorial Intern for the Chattanooga Times Free Press

The Chattanooga region recently welcomed artist Taylor Hart, who moved from Franklin to Chickamauga last winter. Originally from upstate New York, Hart says that her inspiration -- her service dog, Georgia Peach -- helped her survive the darkest period of her life. "I swear by this: That dog saved my life," Hart says. "I call her my angel on Earth."

Hart's work focuses on capturing the soul of animals, particularly through their eyes, which she believes reveal the heart and essence of our furry friends. She paints pets from photographs and works with a variety of mediums, including acrylics, watercolors, charcoal and soft pastels, producing heartfelt pieces that often serve as an homage to pets who have passed away. She describes her art as "a tribute to our most loyal companions: our beloved pets who fill our lives with joy, love and endless precious moments."

Painted in her home studio, "Man's Best Friend" was made with splattered paint and a palette knife to create texture. The painting places Hart's service dog alongside an orange tabby cat owned by a local Chattanoogan, pairing two common pets who are with us even when times are tough. "When bad things happen, good things are on the way," Hart says. "I just don't think that we're given more than we can handle."
